History
The formation of new State of Rajasthan, after integ ration of Rajputana States was achieved on 30th March 1949. The office of the A ccountant General, Rajasthan, started functioning from 1st October, 1949 at Jaipur in part of the city Palace, at Jaleb Chowk. For providing adequate a ccommodation and addressing the probl em of congestion and dispersal of offices in several buildings situated at considerable distance, His Highness Sarmand-I Raja Jai Hindustan Raj Rajendra Shri Maharaja Dhiraj Sir Sawai Man Singh Bahadur, GCSI, GCIE, LLD. Maharaj of Jaipur and Rajpramukh of Rajasthan laid down the foundation stone for the present office building on 17th February, 1955.
Further, the office was bifurcated into two offices in April 1982 -"A ccountant General-I and A ccountant General-II" The former was entrusted with the work of a ccounting of the State transactions and Civil Audit. The latter was entrusted with the work of audit of State Government's Companies, Corpo rations and Commercial Undertakings and audit of Receipts (both Central and State).
In March 1984, The offices were further reorganised into two distinct functional categories, namely, A ccountant General ( A ccounts and Entitl ement) and A ccountant General (Audit). Shri V. Doraiswami was the A ccountant General (A&E) and Shri S.C. Anand was A ccountant General (Audit).
On 10th July 1989, the Office of the A ccountant General (Audit) was further reorganised into two offices on functional basis- A ccountant General (Audit)-I and A ccountant General (Audit)-II. The former was entrusted with prepa ration and finalisation of State Civil Audit Report and cadre manag ement of personnel. The latter prepared and finalised Audit Report (Commercial) and Audit Report (Revenue Receipt). Shri P.K. Brahma was A ccountant General (Audit)-I and Shri N Sunder Rajan was the A ccountant General (Audit)-II.
On 20th Sept ember 2002, the Office of the A ccountant General (Audit)-I was upgraded to the Office of the Principal A ccountant General (Audit)- I. Shri Anand Shankar was the first Principal A ccountant General (Audit)-I. The responsibility of estate manag ement was also entrusted to the Office of the Principal A ccountant General in Nov ember 2002.
Housed in 'Mahalekhakar Bhawan' at present, the audit offices are renamed as Principal A ccountant General (Civil Audit) and A ccountant General (Commercial & Revenue Audit) since Sept ember 2004.
